The Supreme Court is set to hear a plea on July 15 by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao, challenging a Telangana High Court order. Rao seeks to declare as 'illegal' the state government's formation of a commission to probe alleged irregularities in the power sector during his tenure as Chief Minister.
The plea will be reviewed by a bench consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra. Rao's petition calls for the judicial inquiry's rejection into decisions made by his administration on power procurement from Chhattisgarh and the construction of Bhadradri and Yadadri thermal power plants by Telangana's state power generation company, TSGENCO.
Rao alleges bias in the continued leadership of Justice (retd) L Narasimha Reddy as the commission's head and claims that his direction to appear before the body was arbitrary. He argues that the ongoing commission inquiry is politically motivated by the current Congress regime to discredit his previous administration, which had resolved the state's power crisis before June 2014.
