A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was killed in a gun attack by suspected militants at Mongbung village in Manipur's Jiribam district on Sunday morning, police confirmed.

The deceased, identified as Ajay Kumar Jha from Bihar, suffered bullet injuries to the head and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. Another policeman was injured and is currently receiving treatment.

In a post on X, Governor Anusuiya Uikey condemned the “heinous act of violence” and extended her condolences to Jha's family, stating that such actions would not be tolerated in Manipur. Chief Minister N Biren Singh also denounced the attack, stating that Jha's sacrifice would not go in vain and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
