Clash Erupts Over Dalit Groom's Horse Tradition

Three members of a Dalit community were injured in a clash during a wedding in Madakarimupr village after upper-caste men objected to the groom's horse mounting tradition. Police registered a case against eight individuals and arrested two. Security has been increased to prevent further conflicts.

Three individuals from a Dalit community sustained injuries during a contentious wedding event in Madakarimupr village, triggered by objections from upper-caste men over the groom's traditional horse mounting, police confirmed on Monday.

The altercation reportedly began when the groom's party played songs deemed ''casteist'' by some, escalating as upper-caste men challenged the groom's right to mount a horse, a tradition in the north. The wedding party was attacked with sharp weapons, sticks, and guns, resulting in several injuries, including to the groom's brother, as noted in the FIR.

Circle Officer Ramashish Yadav stated that a case has been filed against eight individuals under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and SC/ST Act, with two arrests made. Security measures have been intensified in the village to prevent any further disturbances.
