The Goa police have achieved a remarkable 98 per cent detection rate in crimes against women and children this year, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed the state legislative assembly on Tuesday.
Responding to a Calling Attention motion by BJP MLA Michael Lobo, Sawant cited a recent murder of a senior citizen in Calangute. The victim was killed in his Candolim village home on Sunday, and the accused has been apprehended in Karnataka.
Sawant emphasized the need for mandatory tenant verification and noted that there is increased awareness among victims to report crimes. The average detection rate has been 84 per cent since 2019, he added. Opposition legislators, including AAP MLA Venzy Viegas, called for public and private CCTV cameras to be linked with local police stations. The chief minister agreed to the proposal, promising action to ensure better surveillance.
