Mizoram Struggles with Debt: Chief Minister Lalduhoma Speaks Out

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Tuesday highlighted financial constraints hindering policy implementation due to a huge debt burden left by the previous government.
During a meeting of the Mizoram State Policy Coordination Committee, Lalduhoma stated that the flagship Handholding policy could not be rolled out extensively this fiscal year due to public debt repayment obligations.
Despite the limitations, the state government intends to purchase four crops—ginger, chilli, turmeric, and broomsticks—from farmers. Additionally, Animal Husbandry Minister Lalsawivunga disclosed that the state is struggling with liabilities amounting to over Rs 13,500 crore, which is 95.6% of the state's 2023-24 budget.
