Convicted Murderer Allegedly Commits Suicide in Sanganer Open Prison
Ankur Padia, a prisoner serving a life sentence for the kidnapping and murder of a minor, allegedly committed suicide in Sanganer open prison. A judicial inquiry has been ordered. Padia, initially sentenced to death, had his sentence commuted to life with a 25-year minimum term by the high court.

Ankur Padia, a prisoner serving a life sentence for the heinous crime of kidnapping and murdering a seven-year-old boy, allegedly shot himself in Sanganer open prison, according to local police.
Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was a suicide. The Station House Officer of Malpura Gate Police Station, Hemant Singh, confirmed a judicial inquiry has been initiated into the matter.
The tragic event occurred on Tuesday evening. Padia, 43, had been convicted in 2014 and initially received the death penalty in February 2018. His sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment with a 25-year minimum term by the high court in March 2021. He was transferred to the open jail from Bikaner jail recently. Such open prisons allow inmates to work outside during the day and return by evening.
