NGO's Persistent Fight Against Child Marriage Shows Significant Progress

The study, released by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), recorded a total of 59,364 foiled child marriage attempts with the assistance of panchayats.

The Rajasthan High Court, in a landmark judgment, held panchayats accountable for child marriage, resulting in a notable decline during the festival of Akshaya Tritiya. According to the report, legal interventions played a crucial role in this progress.

Despite these achievements, challenges persist. National data shows a worrying trend in the kidnapping of minor girls for marriage. The report underscores the need for sustained legal action and community involvement to eradicate child marriage completely. Recommendations include creating fast-track courts and more stringent punishments.
