Hezbollah Commander's Death Deepens Lebanese-Israeli Conflict
A Hezbollah commander, Habib Maatouk, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon. The death comes amid escalating violence between Hezbollah and Israel, marking the latest fatality after months of cross-border hostilities. Eighteen were wounded in the strike, and fears of a wider conflict are rising.
In a significant escalation of hostilities, a commander in Hezbollah's elite Radwan forces, Habib Maatouk, was killed by an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon, according to two security sources. This incident follows the death of another commander, Ali Ahmed Hassin, in April.
The strike targeted the border villages of Safad El Battikh and Jmaijmeh, resulting in eighteen wounded individuals being taken to Tebnine government hospital, as reported by its director, Mohammed Hamadi. It is unclear how many of the injured were fighters or civilians.
Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah warned of expanded attacks on Israel if civilian casualties continue. Hamas also reported the death of one of their commanders in an Israeli strike in Lebanon's West Bekaa. Concurrent attacks between Hezbollah and Israel have intensified, leading to significant civilian and fighter casualties.
