Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay on Friday, emphasizing the enduring bilateral bond rooted in mutual trust and benefit. Misri arrived for a two-day official visit to co-chair the India-Bhutan Development Cooperation Talks with his counterpart Pema Choden.
This was Misri's first overseas trip since his appointment. Prime Minister Tobgay congratulated Misri and noted that their discussions spanned the entire spectrum of bilateral relations. 'We reaffirmed the close bond between Bhutan and India, agreeing that our partnership must continue to flourish,' Tobgay posted on X.
Misri’s visit to Bhutan highlights ongoing high-level exchanges as part of India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy. India is supporting Bhutan’s 13th Five Year Plan with INR/Nu 10,000 crore in various sectors including health, education, and infrastructure, as per Indian Embassy statements.
