Nine Arrested Over Illegal Inner Line Permits Racket in Manipur

Nine people, including a lower division clerk from the Labour Department, have been arrested in Manipur for illegally issuing Inner Line Permits (ILPs). Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced that 3,500 ILPs were fraudulently prepared, leading to the seizure of various items and the formation of a Special Investigating Team (SIT).

Nine individuals have been apprehended for their involvement in the illicit issuance of Inner Line Permits (ILPs) in Manipur, according to a statement by Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday.

Among the detained is a lower division clerk employed in the Labour Department, he said.

Singh revealed that about 3,500 ILPs were illicitly produced through raids on five outlets where the illegal activities were uncovered. Various items, including computers and laptops, were seized during the raids, he added.

A Special Investigating Team (SIT) will be formed to delve into the matter, the chief minister announced.

“The state government takes the issue of ILP issuance very seriously,” Singh emphasized.

He clarified that only deputy commissioners and the Labour Commissioner are authorized to issue ILPs. He urged those in possession of fake ILP cards to surrender to police immediately, warning of strict repercussions.

Measures are also underway to fortify all ILP monitoring cells, he noted.

Inner Line Permits are travel documents that permit Indian citizens to enter and stay in protected areas for a limited time.
