Honoring a Brave Soul: Captain Brijesh Thapa's Sacrifice

Captain Brijesh Thapa, a third-generation Army officer, was cremated with full military honours in his ancestral village in West Bengal. Thapa, who was killed in a gunfight with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda, was remembered by locals, politicians, and military officials for his bravery and dedication.

Captain Brijesh Thapa, who tragically lost his life while battling terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda, was laid to rest with full military honours at his ancestral village in West Bengal's Darjeeling district.

The air echoed with the slogan 'Brijesh Thapa Amar Rahe,' as numerous people gathered to pay homage to the fallen officer on Friday.

Colonel Bhuwanesh K Thapa (Retd), recalled his son's lifelong ambition to join the army, expressing pride in his son's ultimate sacrifice.

''I feel proud of my son. He did his duty,'' the retired officer told reporters.

Captain Thapa's remains arrived at his ancestral home in Jing Tea Estate, Lebong, on Thursday, where political leaders, senior government and military officials attended the cremation.

A post on X by the Indian Army's Trishakti Corps stated, ''The valiant officer made the supreme sacrifice on 15th July 2024 while bravely fighting terrorists in Doda. Various Army and Civil dignitaries have paid their respects to the brave officer. Indian Army ensured full military honours to the departed soul.''

Four army personnel, including Captain Thapa, succumbed to injuries sustained in a gunfight with heavily armed terrorists in Doda. Captain Thapa, who had joined the Army five years ago, was just 27 years old.
