Supreme Court Stays Execution of Convict in Kerala Law Student Rape-Murder Case

The Supreme Court has issued a stay on the execution of Muhammed Ameer-Ul-Islam, who was convicted for the rape and murder of a 30-year-old law student in Kerala in 2016.
Judge B R Gavai, along with Justices Sanjay Karol and K V Viswanathan, passed the order while hearing the convict's plea against the Kerala High Court's May 20 verdict which confirmed his death sentence.
The court directed that the execution of the death sentence be stayed pending the final disposal of the appeal. The court also sought reports on the convict's conduct while in jail and a psychological evaluation.
