Tragic Custody Death Amid Juvenile Rape Case in Nandyal

An uncle of one of the three juveniles accused of raping a nine-year-old girl in Nandyal district died in police custody. The man was suspected of being involved in disposing of the girl's body. He was apprehended after attempting to flee but later died from severe dehydration and uneasiness.

In a tragic turn of events, the uncle of one of the three juvenile suspects in a recent rape case in Nandyal district died while in police custody, an official stated on Saturday.

The incident took place on July 7, where three boys allegedly raped a nine-year-old girl and then threw her into the Mucchumarri Lift Irrigation Canal in Mucchumarri village.

Newly-appointed Kurnool Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police K. Praveen confirmed that the 35-year-old relative died in a local hospital after being taken into custody. The police had information suggesting his involvement in the disposal of the girl's body and apprehended him near Nandikotkur.

According to Praveen, the man resisted arrest and attempted to flee, resulting in a scuffle before he was finally captured. While being transported to the police station, severe dehydration and uneasiness were observed, prompting immediate hospital treatment. Unfortunately, doctors could not revive him, and he was declared dead.

As the man died in police custody, a case has been registered under relevant legal sections. Meanwhile, the police are still working to recover the minor girl's body.
