The Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) announced on Sunday that all meat shops along the Kanwar Yatra routes will remain closed during the holy month of Sawan. The decision aims to ensure that Kanwariyas do not encounter any difficulties during their pilgrimage.
VMC Public Relations Officer (PRO) Sandeep Srivastava stated that this directive was issued during an executive meeting led by Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari on July 19. According to Srivastava, there are 96 meat shops on the Kanwar Yatra route, all of which will be closed from July 22 to August 19.
A survey of the routes was conducted to identify the shops to be closed, and instructions were given to the concerned officials to implement this order. The 'Sawan' month sees a significant influx of devotees performing 'jalabhishek' of Lord Shiva, making this move essential for their convenience.
