The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday expressed gratitude towards the Supreme Court for issuing an interim stay on controversial directives from the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments. These directives mandated that eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route display the names of their owners.

'The BJP is an anti-Dalit party,' asserted Delhi minister Atishi during a press conference. According to her, one of the BJP’s objectives during the recent Lok Sabha polls was to end reservations, leading to widespread Dalit backlash against the party.

Furthermore, similar directives had been issued by the BJP-ruled Ujjain Municipal Corporation, compelling shop owners to display their names and mobile numbers outside their establishments. Atishi argued that such moves were intended to ensure Dalit-operated eateries were avoided by Kanwar yatris.

The Supreme Court bench, consisting of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and S V N Bhatti, issued notices to the Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh governments, demanding replies to the pleas challenging these directives. The pleas were filed by the NGO Association of Protection of Civil Rights, TMC MP Mahua Moitra, and others.
