A Ukrainian drone attack damaged a ferry and resulted in the death of one individual at Russia's Port Kavkaz in the southern Krasnodar region, regional governor Veniamin Kondratyev reported on Tuesday using the Telegram messaging app.

The fire at the port, which was triggered by the drone strike, was soon put out, the RIA state news agency conveyed, citing an emergency services source. Reuters was unable to immediately verify the attack details, and there was no immediate comment from Kyiv.

Situated on a narrow spit of land opposite the Crimean peninsula, Port Kavkaz serves as a vital link between Russia's mainland and Crimea, which Moscow annexed from Ukraine in 2014. The port also facilitates Russia's oil and grain exports across the Black Sea. In May, the Ukrainian military claimed to have targeted the port's oil terminal with missiles.
