Typhoon Gaemi Forces Air Force Drill Cancellations in Taiwan

Typhoon Gaemi prompted the cancellation of air force drills off Taiwan's east coast, although naval and land exercises will continue in other areas. The typhoon caused moderate flooding but spared major cities from significant damage. The annual Han Kuang military exercises proceed with safety adjustments, following the election of President Lai Cheng-te.

The arrival of Typhoon Gaemi has led to the cancellation of air force drills off Taiwan's east coast, despite the continuation of naval and land exercises in other areas. The Air Force 5th Tactical Mixed Wing announced the cancellation due to adverse weather conditions.

According to the Central Weather Bureau, Typhoon Gaemi is moving westward toward China after causing moderate flooding on Taiwan's east coast. Major cities such as Kaosiung, Tainan, Taichung, and the capital Taipei avoided major damage.

Military spokesperson Sun Li-fang stated that the annual Han Kuang military exercises will proceed with necessary adjustments to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment. Some sea and air exercises will be altered due to weather. These drills follow the election of President Lai Cheng-te, who maintains the Democratic Progressive Party's position of not recognizing Taiwan as Chinese territory.
