A local court on Tuesday convicted Sachindra Nath Tripathi for the 2020 murder of his wife Poonam, sentencing him to life imprisonment. District Sessions Judge Abdul Shahid also imposed a Rs 20,000 fine on Tripathi, as confirmed by District Government Advocate (Criminal) Yogesh Kumar Sharma.
Sharma detailed the case, stating that Poonam's father, Suresh Chandra Pandey, had lodged a complaint accusing Tripathi of prolonged mental and physical harassment since their marriage 12 years prior. Pandey's complaint further indicated that Tripathi had threatened Poonam with extramarital affairs and remarriage.
On April 14, 2020, Pandey received a call at around 3 am from Poonam's in-laws, informing him of her murder. Upon arriving at the scene, it was discovered that Tripathi had killed Poonam with a sharp weapon. Following the complaint, police lodged an FIR and submitted a charge sheet after completing the investigation.
