On Tuesday, the Supreme Court ruled against pleas seeking the cancellation and re-testing of the NEET-UG 2024 exam, stating that there was no evidence of a 'systemic breach' that compromised the exam's sanctity. The Court emphasized the importance of providing certainty and finality for the dispute, which affects the careers of over 2 million students.
Highlighting that the data did not indicate a widespread leak of the question paper, the Court observed that ordering a re-test would severely impact over 24 lakh students and disrupt the medical admission schedule. Such a move would also have a ripple effect on medical education and the availability of qualified medical professionals in the future, the Court noted.
The Supreme Court dismissed allegations that the leak was systemic and said suitable action would be taken against any students found to have benefited from the leak. It accepted a report from IIT Delhi experts on a controversial physics question and instructed the NTA to revise the merit list accordingly. Individual grievances were directed to be pursued in respective High Courts after withdrawing pleas from the apex court.
