Rescue and Return: Jharkhand Labourers Back from Cameroon

Twenty-seven labourers from Jharkhand, stranded in Cameroon without salaries and facing food shortages, have returned home. Chief Minister Hemant Soren intervened with the Ministry of External Affairs to facilitate their return, securing Rs 30 lakh in unpaid wages and providing additional financial assistance to the workers.

Twenty-seven labourers from Jharkhand who were stranded in Cameroon, Central Africa, have returned to the state, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

The labourers had appealed for assistance through a video message, reporting non-payment of salaries and difficulties in securing daily meals. Acting promptly, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren reached out to the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure their safe return.

According to an official statement, the state government facilitated the payment of approximately Rs 30 lakh in outstanding wages and brought the labourers back home. Upon their arrival at Parasnath Railway Station in Giridih, each worker received Rs 25,000 in financial aid. The labourers, who had been working in Cameroon since March 29 under a contract, had faced months of severe hardship. Jharkhand Labour Secretary Mukesh Kumar noted that the state has a registered labour force of 10 lakh.
