Bihar Assembly Passes Bill to Curb Exam Malpractices

The Bihar assembly has passed a bill aimed at preventing question paper leaks and other malpractices in government recruitment examinations. The Bihar Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024, was tabled by Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and passed amidst an opposition walkout. The Bill imposes severe penalties including imprisonment and fines.

The Bihar assembly on Wednesday took a significant step to combat the issue of question paper leaks and other malpractices in government recruitment exams by passing the Bihar Public Examinations (PE) (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024.

State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary introduced the Bill, which was passed by a voice vote, despite opposition walkout. The legislation targets malpractices in competitive exams, such as question paper leaks, a prevalent issue notably highlighted by the NEET 2024 controversy.

The new law enforces stringent punishments for those involved in these malpractices, stipulating jail terms ranging from three to five years and fines amounting to Rs 10 lakh.
