Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday convened a meeting with Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, according to official sources.

This meeting is particularly notable as the Governor recently requested a detailed report from the Chief Secretary on alleged fraudulent land allotments by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), implicating plots given to Siddaramaiah's wife, Parvathi.

An official clarified that the Chief Minister's meeting with the Governor primarily addressed pending legislative bills.

The development coincided with heated debates in both the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and Council.

The Opposition BJP declared a 'day-and-night' dharna in both legislative bodies over a lack of discussion regarding the land allotment scam.

On July 14, the government formed a single-member inquiry commission led by former High Court Judge Justice P N Desai to investigate the allegations.

The judicial inquiry will cover illegalities from 2006 to July 15, 2024, highlighted Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil, who outlined the commission's terms of reference.

The commission is tasked with ascertaining the number of layouts formed by MUDA, the extent of land used without proper acquisition or via denotification, the compensation provided to landowners, and the legality of such compensations.
