Two Overground Workers Arrested in Connection with Army Attack in J&K

Two overground workers were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir for their involvement in a terror attack on an army patrol party. The attack resulted in the deaths of five army personnel. Over 100 individuals have been interrogated as part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.

Two alleged overground workers (OGWs) were arrested for their involvement in a terror attack on an army patrol party in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, police said.

In a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to counter terrorist activities, police apprehended two OGWs for supporting terror-related actions.

On July 8, five army personnel, including a junior commissioned officer, were killed and five others injured in the attack by heavily armed terrorists in Machedi.

“These individuals deliberately withheld crucial information from the police,” said the spokesperson, identifying the arrested as Layaqat Ali, alias Pawu, and Mool Raj, alias Jenju.

The duo obstructed efforts to prevent terrorist actions by refusing to disclose vital information. They have been booked under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the EIMCO Act at Malhar Police Station.

Over 100 individuals have been interrogated, and preventive measures taken against over 40 others to mitigate risks and disrupt support systems for terrorist activities. “The arrest underscores our commitment,” the spokesperson added.
