The central government is currently embroiled in nearly seven lakh court cases, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal disclosed on Thursday. The ministries of defence and finance are leading the list, he noted while addressing the Rajya Sabha.
Meghwal revealed that a total of 6,98,904 cases are pending in courts where Union ministries and departments are involved. He emphasized that the data regarding such litigation is dynamic and constantly changing.
According to the government data, 17,779 such litigations are pending in the Supreme Court and 2,53,073 in various high courts. Furthermore, 2,75,181 cases are pending with various tribunals. Specifically, the finance ministry is entangled in 1,89,289 cases, the defence ministry in 95,467 cases, and the railway ministry is involved in 1,14,557 cases.
