A sweeper at a government school for blind girls in Malakpet has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a visually challenged minor girl. The incident came to light when the girl's mother took her to a state-run hospital on July 15, where doctors notified the police about the assault.

A police team promptly visited the hospital, recording the statements of the girl's mother. A case was registered under relevant sections of the POCSO Act on July 16, according to a senior police official.

The police continued their investigation and subsequently took the sweeper into custody on Wednesday, following the victim's discharge from the hospital and her recorded statement. The alleged assault occurred on July 7, as per the police.
