Man Arrested for Impregnating Mentally Challenged Woman in Sikkim

A man was arrested on charges of impregnating a mentally challenged woman in Sikkim's Gangtok district. The arrest followed a complaint by the victim's sister after discovering the pregnancy. The case, currently under investigation, received support from the Sikkim State Commission for Women.

A man has been apprehended on allegations of impregnating a mentally challenged woman in Sikkim's Gangtok district, an official disclosed on Friday.

The accused, familiar to the victim, was taken into custody by Gangtok Sadar police following a complaint by the victim's sister.

The FIR states that the complainant noticed her sister's pregnancy after recognizing the absence of her menstrual cycle for approximately three months. A subsequent test confirmed the pregnancy. Upon inquiry, the victim revealed that the accused had transported her in his vehicle and assaulted her during a road trip.

The Sikkim State Commission for Women assisted the victim's family in filing the police complaint. The case is currently under investigation, with the arrest being made on Wednesday, according to the police.
