China and Japan Relations: Advancing or Retreating?

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa held talks at the ASEAN Summit in Laos on Friday, addressing the critical state of their bilateral relations.
Wang urged Japan to form an objective and correct understanding of China and to adopt a positive and rational China policy, according to a Chinese foreign ministry statement. Kamikawa acknowledged the potential for cooperation but pointed out existing unresolved issues.
Amidst ongoing semiconductor export restrictions by Japan, which have angered Beijing, Kamikawa stated that these curbs are not specifically targeted at China and affirmed Japan's willingness to maintain constructive communication. Both ministers agreed on the need to work together toward regional stability and prosperity amidst global and regional conflicts.
