Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday appealed to the public to serve the country in whatever capacity they can, as he remembered the sacrifices of soldiers, including six from the state, who perished during the Kargil war.

Shinde made these remarks while paying homage to the martyrs on the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. He emphasized his government's commitment to the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families.

The CM highlighted several initiatives for their benefit, including the establishment of a dedicated corporation, a rest house for ex-servicemen in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, various job and self-employment opportunities, wage and pension solutions, and the construction of a war memorial in Mumbai.

He noted that during times of calamity, soldiers are always the first to be remembered for their service, whether it's securing borders or rescuing citizens. 'Our government will work diligently to ensure the welfare of the martyrs' kin,' Shinde added.
