NITI Aayog's 9th Governing Council meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, commenced on Saturday with a focus on transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.

The meeting stresses participative governance and collaboration between the Centre and state governments to enhance the quality of life for both rural and urban populations. This involves strengthening governmental intervention mechanisms.

The council is the apex body of NITI Aayog and includes all state chief ministers, Union Territory lieutenant governors, and several Union ministers. Modi presides as its chairman. The discussion also centers on recommendations from the 3rd National Conference of Chief Secretaries held last December.

Key themes addressed include access to drinking water, electricity quality, healthcare, schooling, and property management. A vision document is in the works, aiming for India to reach a USD 30 trillion economy by 2047, marking its 100th year of independence.

In 2023, NITI Aayog was tasked with merging the ten sectoral thematic visions into a comprehensive vision for Viksit Bharat @2047, covering economic growth, social progress, environmental sustainability, and good governance.
