Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has taken urgent steps to address the flood situation in Kolhapur. On Saturday, he conferred with the local administration and emphasized the need for comprehensive assistance to affected residents.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to liaise with their counterparts in Karnataka to manage the release of water from the Almatti Dam, which is exacerbating the flooding in Kolhapur. The Panchganga river has already surged above the danger mark, and further rises are likely, as per official reports.
Two National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and an Indian Army unit have been mobilized for rescue operations. Shinde, currently in Delhi for a NITI Aayog meeting, stressed that officials should prioritize evacuations and ensure that displaced individuals receive adequate shelter and support. Continuous monitoring and communication with the Almatti dam management were highlighted as critical to mitigating the impact of the floods.
