A 22-year-old woman from Mundka, outer Delhi, has been arrested for allegedly slitting the throat of her nine-day-old infant because she did not want a girl child, according to police reports on Saturday.

The incident was reported on Thursday by the woman's husband, Govinda, who approached the local police station and informed them about the crime. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Jimmy Chiram stated that a team was dispatched to the couple's residence in Baba Haridas Colony, Tikri of Mundka.

Upon arrival, police found the infant deceased in a room on the second floor, with the mother in another room. During interrogation, the woman confessed to the crime, citing her unwillingness to have a girl child. She has been booked under section 103(1) of the BNS and placed in judicial custody. The husband, a laborer in a shoe factory, lives in the house with his brother, mother, and two-year-old son.
