Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday extended a welcome to Gulab Chand Kataria, the state's new governor, pledging to collaborate closely with him.

Kataria succeeds Banwarilal Purohit, who resigned in February, a move accepted by President Droupadi Murmu. The major gubernatorial appointments were announced on Saturday night.

Mann spoke to Kataria, who is slated to take his oath of office on July 31. While Mann respected Purohit, he disapproved of his frequent visits to border districts, alleging they fostered conflict. Purohit's resignation precedes continued tension between him and Mann over various governance issues.
