The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create India's first 'Standardized Agriculture Demonstration Farm' (SADF). The agreement was formalized on July 24, 2024, and marks a pioneering collaboration between BIS and an agricultural university in India.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Dr. M. S. Chauhan, Vice-Chancellor of GBPUAT, along with senior university officials, including Dr. Deepa Vinay, Registrar; Dr. Ajeet Kumar Nain, Director of Research; and the Deans of various colleges. Dr. S. B. Singh, BIS Chair at GBPUAT, was also present. The BIS delegation was led by Shri Rajeev P, Deputy Director General (North), and included Shri Saurabh Tiwari, Director & Head, BIS Dehradun, among other senior officials.

Shri Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Director General of BIS, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating, "This partnership with GBPUAT represents a major advancement. By integrating Indian Standards into agricultural practices, we aim to benefit farmers and drive innovation in agriculture. We anticipate a substantial positive impact on the agricultural sector and the wider community."

The MoU's primary goal is to establish SADFs at GBPUAT, which will function as experimental sites for testing and implementing agricultural practices and technologies aligned with Indian Standards. Dr. Chauhan has directed GBPUAT officials to begin work on the project immediately and to provide regular updates to BIS.

This initiative is expected to promote standardized agricultural practices and introduce advanced technologies, enhancing productivity and sustainability in Indian agriculture.
