The Delhi High Court on Monday reserved its order on the bail plea by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the corruption case stemming from the alleged excise policy scam.
Justice Neena Bansal Krishna reserved the verdict after hearing the counsel for AAP leader Kejriwal and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI opposed the bail plea, alleging that Kejriwal, dubbed the 'sutradhaar' of the scam, could influence witnesses if released.
Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi argued that Kejriwal's arrest was meant to ensure he did not exit jail, stating there was no direct evidence against him. Kejriwal, arrested by the CBI on June 26, remains under judicial custody. The Supreme Court had granted him interim bail in a related money laundering case on July 12. The excise policy was scrapped in 2022 after investigations revealed alleged irregularities and corruption.
