Congress' women's wing on Monday launched a nationwide movement demanding an immediate implementation of the women's reservation law in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

The campaign, initiated from Jantar Mantar, will extend to every state, district, city, and village until the demands of half of the country’s population are met, stated All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) president Alka Lamba in a statement.

Lamba criticized the Narendra Modi government for passing the women's reservation law before the 2024 general elections but keeping its implementation pending.

'The reservation law should be implemented immediately so that women in states like Haryana, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, and Maharashtra -- where elections are scheduled later this year -- can benefit from the legislation,' she stressed.

'The demand is for the immediate implementation of 33 per cent women’s reservation. We urge the government to act now and ensure women their fair rights,' she added.

'Our second demand is economic justice. Women are suffering due to rising inflation and unemployment, leading to increased domestic violence,' Lamba noted.

'The third demand concerns social justice and security. Crimes against women are on the rise under the BJP government, and the fear of law among criminals is diminishing,' she claimed.

Women from various states and AIMC state heads participated in the campaign.
