Former APSC Chairman Rakesh Paul Sentenced to 14 Years in Cash-for-Jobs Scandal
Former Assam Public Service Commission chairman Rakesh Paul has been sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment for his role in a cash-for-jobs case involving the recruitment of agricultural development officers. Two former APSC members, Basanta Kumar Doley and Samedur Rahman, received 10-year sentences, while 29 others will serve four years in jail.

Former Assam Public Service Commission chairman Rakesh Paul was sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment on Monday by a special court in connection with a cash-for-jobs case involving the recruitment of agricultural development officers in the state.
Two other former APSC members, Basanta Kumar Doley and Samedur Rahman, were handed 10-year prison terms, while 29 others will face four years of incarceration, according to the order issued by Special Judge Dipankar Thakuria.
Paul and the two former members received seven years of rigorous imprisonment for cheating, another seven years for forgery, and 10 years under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Although Paul’s sentences will run consecutively, he will serve a maximum of 14 years as permitted by the CrPC.
