Two children were fatally stabbed at a Taylor Swift-themed event in northwest England, according to police reports released on Monday. The suspect, a 17-year-old male, has been apprehended on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
Nine other children suffered injuries, six critically, in addition to two adults who are also in critical condition. 'We believe that the adults who were injured were bravely trying to protect the children,' stated Chief Constable Serena Kennedy of Merseyside Police.
The event, advertised as a yoga and dance workshop for children aged six to 11, turned into a scene of chaos as emergency services arrived to find multiple victims. Authorities stress that the motive for the horrific attack remains unclear, although it is not believed to be terrorism-related. Armed police arrested the suspect at an address in Southport, north of Liverpool, seizing a knife during the arrest.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed the nation's shock and offered condolences to the victims and their families. 'Our thoughts and condolences are with the victims, their families, their friends, and the wider community,' he said.
