AAP's MLA Withdraws Plea Against Arrest in Money Laundering Case

Jaswant Singh Gajjan Majra, an AAP MLA from Punjab, has withdrawn his plea from the Supreme Court challenging his arrest in a money laundering investigation related to bank fraud. He has sought permission to approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court for bail. The case involves a Rs 40 crore bank fraud.

In a significant development, AAP member and Punjab MLA Jaswant Singh Gajjan Majra on Tuesday withdrew his plea from the Supreme Court challenging his arrest and remand by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering probe linked to bank fraud.

A bench comprising Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma granted permission for Majra’s counsel to withdraw the plea, while allowing the MLA the liberty to seek bail from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Previously, the top court had declined to grant Majra interim bail to campaign for the Lok Sabha polls. Additionally, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had rejected Majra's plea against his arrest, noting no illegalities in the process. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have conducted multiple raids on his properties, seizing significant cash and electronic items in connection with the alleged Rs 40 crore bank fraud.
