Newly-appointed Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka emphasized that facilitating the state's development is his top priority during a press engagement on Tuesday.

Deka, at age 70, is a former Lok Sabha member from Assam and BJP national secretary. He will succeed Biswabhusan Harichandan, who has served since February 2023.

Ramen Deka is set to be sworn in as the governor at a ceremony at Raj Bhavan, as announced by officials. He and his wife were received by a delegation of state officials including Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Speaker Raman Singh upon their arrival in Raipur.

Addressing the media, Deka articulated his vision for Chhattisgarh, highlighting its potential owing to its rich mineral resources and cultural heritage. He reiterated his commitment to expediting development in the state and strengthening its ties with his home state of Assam.

Chief Minister Sai also lauded Deka's appointment, extending his congratulations and expressing optimism about the state's future under Deka's leadership in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Sai also bid farewell to the outgoing governor, Harichandan, praising his contributions to Chhattisgarh's progress and wishing him a healthy and prosperous future as he returned to Bhubaneswar.
