Preeti Sudan Appointed Chairperson of UPSC
Former health secretary Preeti Sudan has been appointed as the chairperson of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) following the resignation of Manoj Soni. Sudan, a 1983-batch IAS officer, will assume her new role on August 1, 2024.

The government has appointed former health secretary Preeti Sudan as the chairperson of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) after Manoj Soni resigned from the top post earlier this month, according to an official order.
Currently a member of the UPSC, Sudan will take charge on Thursday.
The President has approved Sudan's appointment effective from August 1, 2024, until further orders or until April 29, 2025, whichever comes first, the order dated July 29 stated. A 1983-batch IAS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, Sudan previously served as Union health secretary for three years until July 2020.
The President has also accepted the resignation of Soni, effective from July 31, according to the order. Soni had submitted his resignation on July 4.
