The Allahabad High Court on Thursday decided that the trial in 18 cases related to the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah dispute, centered in Mathura, will proceed. This ruling dismisses a petition filed by the mosque committee contesting the validity of these suits.

Justice Mayank Kumar Jain had previously reserved his judgment on June 6 regarding the plea from the Muslim side about the suits' maintainability. The court has now slated August 12 as the date to frame the issues at hand.

The Hindu litigants' suits seek the removal of the Shahi Idgah mosque, which is situated next to the Krishna Janmabhoomi temple, alleging that the mosque was constructed during Aurangazeb's reign following the temple's demolition. Conversely, the mosque's management and the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board argue that the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991 prohibits changing any place of worship's status from its configuration on the day of India's Independence.
