Haryana's Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini, revealed on Thursday that the state government is contemplating the introduction of reservations for Backward Classes Block-B in local bodies and Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs).
Following the receipt of a supplementary report on the reservation proportions for these groups from the Haryana Backward Classes Commission, Saini confirmed that the government is moving in this direction. The report was submitted by the Commission's Chairman, Judge (Retd) Darshan Singh.
This potential policy shift follows the 2023 acceptance of recommendations by the Haryana cabinet to introduce similar reservations for Backward Classes Block-A in urban local bodies. Saini also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to protect the rights of backward classes, including raising the creamy layer limit and establishing a venture capital fund for youth from these communities.
