In a tragic incident, a Missouri police dog named Vader died after the air conditioner in the patrol vehicle malfunctioned. The 4-year-old K-9 served with the Arnold Police Department in suburban St. Louis.
According to police, Vader was left in an air-conditioned vehicle while his handler attended to other duties. However, the air conditioning system failed, resulting in rising temperatures inside the car. Despite being taken to a veterinary clinic and showing initial signs of improvement, Vader did not survive.
The department's vehicles are equipped with systems that notify handlers, activate cooling fans, and even roll down windows when temperatures get too high. Unfortunately, in this case, the heat alarm system failed to activate. This marks the second hot-car death involving a Missouri police dog this year.
