Chirag Paswan Opposes SC Ruling on SC Quota Sub-Groups

Union Minister Chirag Paswan has opposed the Supreme Court's decision to allow states to create sub-groups within the Scheduled Castes (SC) for a 15% quota. Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party plans to appeal the decision. He also supports a caste census but believes its findings should remain confidential.

Union Minister Chirag Paswan voiced strong opposition to the Supreme Court judgement permitting states to create sub-groups within the Scheduled Castes for a 15% quota, asserting that his Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will appeal against the ruling.

At a press conference, Paswan expressed support for a caste census, a cause championed by opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, while also stressing that the results should not be divulged publicly.

Paswan criticized the SC ruling on the grounds that sub-groups within the SC quota would not effectively address the plight of the socially marginalized, particularly those experiencing untouchability, a term he noted was absent from the judgement.
