In a major breakthrough, police have successfully apprehended a notorious interstate gang linked to numerous thefts across different regions in Kangra district, including Dehra, Jawalamukhi, Haripur, and Palampur.
Kangra Superintendent of Police Shalini Agnihotri said that 18 individuals, comprising eight men, six women, and four children, were detained from a guest house near the Baglamukhi temple. The gang had been implicated in a string of recent thefts and burglaries, particularly in Dehra and adjacent areas.
'The police were meticulously tracking these criminals, resulting in their arrest on Friday,' said Agnihotri. The suspects, hailing from Madhya Pradesh and Punjab, employed women and minors to sell goods during the day while scouting for potential targets. At night, they executed the thefts using small weapons. Among the recovered items was a stolen Scooty. The police are now working to retrieve other stolen goods and investigate the gang's broader network for selling stolen items outside Himachal Pradesh.
The gang’s criminal activities extended beyond Kangra, with reports of their involvement in thefts in Una, Chamba, and Nurpur police districts. SPs in these regions are conducting separate investigations to gather more information.
