On Monday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) firmly stated its disagreement with the Supreme Court's ruling, which upheld the Delhi lieutenant governor's authority to appoint aldermen to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) without consulting the elected government.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh criticized the decision, describing it as a severe blow to India's democracy. 'This verdict grants the LG the power to bypass the elected government, effectively empowering the LG to run Delhi,' he said.

The Supreme Court bench, led by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, rejected the Delhi government's plea that the LG must act on the council of ministers' advice. AAP members, including Delhi minister Atishi, plan to study the written order and stressed that bypassing the elected government undermines democratic principles.
