Manipur Seeks Rs 371 Crore Aid for Cyclone Remal Damage

Manipur Water Resources Minister Awangbou Newmai revealed to the Assembly that a Rs 371 crore proposal has been submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs to mitigate Cyclone Remal's extensive damage. Nine deaths and significant losses in agriculture and infrastructure have been reported. Additionally, a Rs 711 crore proposal for hailstorm damage is pending.

Manipur Water Resources Minister Awangbou Newmai disclosed to the Assembly on Tuesday that a proposal for Rs 371 crore has been submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to address the damage inflicted by Cyclone Remal in late May.

In response to Congress MLA Surjakumar Okram, Newmai reported that the cyclone and subsequent flooding resulted in nine fatalities and widespread destruction to homes, agriculture, and infrastructure. He mentioned that the State Disaster Relief Fund has already allocated approximately Rs 60 crore for immediate relief efforts.

A central team had previously visited the affected regions for assessment, but the proposal is still pending approval. Additionally, Newmai noted that another proposal seeking Rs 711 crore for hailstorm damage earlier this year is also awaiting clearance.
