Man Arrested for Creating Bogus Firms to Avail Fake Input Tax Credit in Raipur

Personnel from the Central Goods and Service Tax (CGST) and Central Excise departments took action on Tuesday, arresting a man in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, for creating a network of fictitious firms. The man, identified as Badal Gour, orchestrated this scheme to avail fake input tax credit amounting to Rs 34.23 crore, according to an official statement.

The CGST personnel conducted extensive search operations, uncovering a network of six bogus firms engaged in generating counterfeit invoices without any actual supply of goods or services. The investigation revealed Gour was the mastermind behind these fraudulent activities, and he admitted to passing on fake input tax credit worth Rs 34.23 crore to multiple recipients.

Following his confession, Gour was presented before a local court that subsequently placed him in judicial custody for 14 days. As the investigation continues, the CGST department has so far apprehended 19 tax evaders in Chhattisgarh.
