The fighting is concentrated near Sudzha, a critical site for natural gas flow to Ukraine, sparking fears of disruptions to European gas supplies. Ukrainian officials reassured that the gas route remains operational.

President Vladimir Putin condemned the assault as a "major provocation." Meanwhile, the White House, a key ally of Ukraine, claimed it was unaware of the attack beforehand. As Russia scrambles to halt the Ukrainian advance, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy lauded the Ukrainian military's surprising capabilities, though he did not mention the Kursk offensive specifically.
