Assam Tightens Borders Amid Bangladesh Turmoil

Assam DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh stated that only Indian passport holders will be allowed to return from Bangladesh through authorized entry points amid recent turmoil. Assam Police and the BSF are on high alert to prevent illegal entry. A security review meeting discussed measures to maintain peace and tackle insurgency threats.

Assam DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh announced that amidst the turmoil in Bangladesh, only Indian passport holders will be allowed to return through the designated entry points in the state. He emphasized that non-Indians attempting to enter illegally will be stopped.

During a law and order review meeting, Singh reiterated that Assam Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) are committed to preventing illegal entry. He noted that last month, 78 students returned from Bangladesh, and similar measures will be enforced now.

Amid ongoing disturbances in Bangladesh that led to significant violence and the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Assam's border security has been tightened. Joint patrolling by BSF and Assam Police is underway, ensuring vigilance in districts sharing borders with Bangladesh.
